Our history

Reitzel is a family-run business, founded in 1909. It has been successively managed by Hugo Reitzel, the company’s founder, his sons Franz and Charles Reitzel, followed by Joseph Poupon until 1986, and finally Reitzel’s current CEO, Bernard Poupon. The Reitzel and Poupon families are the majority shareholders.

Hugo Reitzel founds the company REITZEL & Cie in Aigle, Switzerland. There, the company begins producing mustard and selling colonial produce.

The company begins the artisanal production of pickled gherkins and vegetables.

Hugo’s sons Charles and Franz take over leadership of the company, which becomes Reitzel Frères.

Industrialisation and installation of Switzerland’s first pasteurisation line in Aigle.

Installation of a production line for vinegar and sauces in Aigle.
Reitzel becomes the first manufacturer of ready-to-eat sauces in Switzerland.

The company torch is handed over to Philippe Reitzel and Bernard Poupon.

The company begins to grow internationally. A partnership is established with the company Zey-Tur-San in Turkey, a leading producer of preserves and condiments.

Takeover of the company Guy Briand SA in Bourré, France, specialising in the manufacturing and packaging of condiments in jars.

The subsidiary Reitzel India is created in Bangalore, specialising in gherkin farming in order to create an efficient supply chain.
