Reitzel India promotes the development of our local partners know-how and builds new relationships based on technical expertise and shared responsibility : targeted advice and efficient distribution of fertilisers for better use of seeds and pesticides (so-called ‘agricultural supplies’) to farmers.

REITZEL has been established in India since 2000 where most of the Group’s gherkins are grown. We contribute to the development of the local agricultural sector economy through 5,000 partnerships with local producers.

  • 45 Reitzel technicians are on hand to train our partner farmers
  • a research partnership with the University of Bangalore and the Bayer Group enables our technical teams to receive X hours of training
  • Experimental agronomic programmes are tested, combining technical advice and profitability for partner farmers
  • Products are tested and delivered, together with information on good practice given in the local language using appropriate means (site visits to experimental farms, training in villages, outreach videos, etc.)

REITZEL organises its distribution and advisory business to farmers in accordance with a standard consistent with the aims of sustainable pesticide use defined in Europe through systematic deployment of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) so as to :

  • Improve yields while respecting the environment and biodiversity
  • Limit the impact on the environment by mastering drip irrigation and eliminating empty packaging
  • Protect workers’ health by systematising the use of personal protective equipment
  • Protect consumers’ health by using only licensed products and complying with the REITZEL decision tree

ISO 26000

From 2005 to 2010, the ISO Working Group has done a great job in developing a 100-page document. It explains – in many instances in great detail – how social responsibility can be understood and what an organization should do. The most important clause 6 describes the core subjects identified by the Working Group:

  • Organizational governance
  • Human rights
  • Labour practices
  • The environment
  • Fair operating practices
  • Consumer issues, and
  • Community involvement and development.
